The condition of abdominal obesity with disturbed HPA axis described here and previously shows similarities with Cushing’s syndrome. Both are characterized by a perturbed HPA axis status, centralization of body fat, and abnormal endocrine, metabolic, and hemodynamic features. Abdominal obesity might be considered as a functional Cushing’s syndrome.
